Position Summary:
Troubleshoot, repair and maintain the facility’s production and equipment mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical systems. Safely carries out work while following electrical code, equipment manuals, schematic diagrams, blueprints and other specifications as required. Uses hand tools, power tools, and electrical and electronic test equipment to complete daily tasks. Support continuous improvement activities to aid in increasing the facility’s SIS efficiency.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production and performs scheduled preventive maintenance machine servicing when not working on emergency or corrective maintenance activities
- Use a range of skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic. Recognize mechanical defects in equipment using touch, sight and sound and repair equipment in accordance with established GMP and safety procedures, conforming with requirements of local building and safety codes
- Competently utilize a complete set of standard mechanic’s tools. Proficiently use calipers, feeler gauges and micrometers
- Completes and passes all mandatory safety, GMP and SQF training classes. Participate in Kaizen, focused improvement and other continuous improvement activities as required to support raising the SIS of the facility
- Completes daily mechanic time sheets. Signs off work order and preventive maintenance sheets when completed and returns paperwork to planner scheduler
- Maintains radio contact with planner scheduler, foremen and maintenance department supervisors using supplied walkie-talkie radios. Answers radio calls as required. Maintains radio etiquette at all times
- Operate shop tools and equipment such as lathe, drill press, etc. to make repairs and/or fabricate simple parts
- Responsible for following all food safety policies, procedures and regulatory criteria including the current SQF code, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and associated preventive controls
- Other duties as assigned
- Travel may be required
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma/GED
- 5-10 years of journey level experience in electrical and mechanical maintenance of industrial equipment
Knowledge and Skills:
- Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical concepts and operating safety
- Demonstrated ability to use hand and power tools commonly used in electrical and mechanical trades
- Basic knowledge of PLC operation
Physical Demands:
Regularly requires intermittent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Physical strength and dexterity sufficient to perform the required task(s). Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more with assistance. Additional demands may be required.
Work Environment:
In addition to normal business hours, work schedules may include after hours and weekends as needed. May work outside and in adverse temperatures which include extreme hot, cold, and humidity. May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. Must be willing and able to wear personal protective equipment as required by established Company Safety standards. May require work in confined and dark spaces, and at heights in excess of 18 feet for prolonged periods of time.
