Machine Operator - Day Shift


Location: Salem, OR 

Exemption: Nonexempt

Position Summary:

The Machine Operator’s primary responsibility is for the application safe work practices in the operation of the packaging line and work area.  These practices will be continually employed while producing consistent high quality products allow us to service the needs of our customers.

  • $19 per hour starting pay


Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • ​​​​Set up line for production run to ensure the application of safe work and food safety practices are met.

  • Ensure that the line is supplied with the proper materials to produce the day’s production run.

  • Operate Line 04 to produce product to Ventura Foods/customer specifications.

  • Maintain a consistent product during entire production run and ensure worker safety and food safety procedures are met.

  • Properly shut down line and perform end of shift procedures while ensuring safe work and food safety guidelines are met.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or manager

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent experience
  • Previous food line-production experience preferred
  • Forklift experience preferred 

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of filling and packaging equipment
  • Good mechanical ability including the ability to diagnose and resolve mechanical abnormalities and to set up and maintain machinery making routine adjustments
  • Able to lift 40lbs frequently


Physical Demands:

Regularly requires intermittent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.  Physical strength and dexterity sufficient to perform the required task(s). Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more with assistance.  Additional demands may be required.


Work Environment:

In addition to normal business hours, work schedules may include after hours and weekends as needed.  May work outside and in adverse temperatures which include extreme hot, cold, and humidity.  May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration.  Must be willing and able to wear personal protective equipment as required by established Company Safety standards.  May require work in confined and dark spaces, and at heights in excess of 18 feet for prolonged periods of time.
