Material Handling Technician



Location: St. Joseph 

Exemption: Nonexempt 

Shift: Nights – 12 hours shifts

Position Summary:

To move finished good products within our facility in preparation for shipment by driving an electric powered industrial truck equipped with devices such as forks or clamps. Push, pull, lift and/or stack products or materials as required. Use RF scanner to ensure accurate inventory location within warehouse.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Remove finished product from production corridor and use RF scanner to scan/adjust count and locate product in warehouse or cooler, as required
  • Keep pallets in the pallet dispenser for production lines
  • Re-warehouse product to support good warehousing practices
  • Perform quality checks for production including correct code date, leakers, caps, wrong packaging, etc.
  • Maintain and file product bar code sheets located at the end of the corridor
  • Monitor palletizer on production lines
  • Operate stretch wrap machine, as needed
  • Consistently follow all safety, sanitation, personnel, and security policies and procedures
  • Responsible for following all food safety policies, procedures and regulatory criteria including the current SQF code, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and associated preventive controls
  • Other duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent experience
  • 1 year of experience in a warehouse distribution environment
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Previously licensed/certified as a forklift driver and must be able to pass skills test for license/certification as well as written test for sit down and stand up forklift
  • Good math skills are required
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively


Physical Demands:

Regularly requires intermittent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.  Physical strength and dexterity sufficient to perform the required task(s). Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more with assistance.  Additional demands may be required.


Work Environment:

In addition to normal business hours, work schedules may include after hours and weekends as needed.  May work outside and in adverse temperatures which include extreme hot, cold, and humidity.  May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration.  Must be willing and able to wear personal protective equipment as required by established Company Safety standards.  May require work in confined and dark spaces, and at heights in excess of 18 feet for prolonged periods of time.
