Plant Training Manager

Position Summary:

The Plant Training Manager is responsible for: the application of adult learning theory and principles for the design, development and delivery of effective learning materials; use talent management and succession planning to assist the plant team in generating people capacity to meet the demands of the business. This role is responsible for ensuring that the plant is supported with the right learning opportunities and tools to enhance the growth and development of our employees. This role will also coordinate learning and assessment activities to comply with federal regulations (OSHA, FSMA and others) as well as the development of competency based learning models, introduction of new training delivery methods as well as building the learning component as part of World Class Manufacturing.  

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead Skill Development processes to identify and address competency, knowledge, and talent gaps in areas of staffing, talent development and succession planning programs to ensure the organization is prepared to meet short and long term goals.
  • Develop an integrated learning infrastructure that assures learning and development opportunities to equip employees and leaders with skills needed for growth and success.
  • Ensure that learning materials are developed on time, are kept current and incorporate or respond to new information such as: plant design changes, plant procedure changes and revisions, new regulations and learning effectiveness reports.   
  • Oversee and manage a consistent Job Skills Development plan and schedule for the plant that provides the necessary framework to ensure employees are prepared to start-up, operate, inspect and maintain facilities in a safe, efficient and environmentally conscious manner.            
  • Drive process adoption and leverage internal trainers to support learning and organizational development initiatives.  Engage external resources as necessary and manage execution to lead to strong results.              
  • Design various managerial reports for review used for tracking and planning to ensure that training activities are making favorable business impacts.
  • Provides guidance, consulting and learning development expertise throughout the organization.                     
  • Partner with operations leaders across all areas of the operation to identify training needs and schedule training events to meet production forecasts and labor gaps.
  • Support a continuous improvement culture by partnering with operations leaders for Operational Excellence activities.                                   
  • Supports HR with organizational development initiatives such as coaching, team development, change management and/or organizational design. 
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • 5+ years of relevant work and of increasing responsibility.
  • Bachelor's degree required in training, education, psychology, business management or related field.  
  • Ability to present ideas, coach and deliver messages related to performance in individual and/or group settings.
  • Experience working with and delivering training/information to peers, hourly teams and management.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Must be able to take complex material and processes and translate that material to an understandable learning method.  
  • Organization, self motivation and capability to work in a rapidly changing environment with the ability to effectively interact with and influence all levels of the organization.
  • Strong interpersonal, coaching, collaboration and negotiation skills.
  • Exceptional written, oral and interpersonal communication skills at all levels of the organization and with individuals and group settings required.
  • Ability to be a trusted advisor and consultative business partner to all functions within the facility.
  • Self driven and committed to providing the highest level of service while remaining aligned with the overall goals of the L&D organization.
  • Demonstrated expertise in utilization of learning systems and capable to design, develop and implement learning programs and strategies.
  • Sound knowledge of learning metrics, performance tracking, data integrity and process improvement methodologies.
  • Knowledge of adult learning processes, instructional design techniques and evaluation methodologies.  
  • Effective presentation and persuasion skills are necessary as this role requires the ability to influence without authority.
  • Supervisory and leadership skills development for frontline supervision, to aid in career development and succession planning.

  • Salary Base Range of $90,952.00 - $117,941.25*
  • Annual bonus (based on the incentive program terms and conditions)
