Position Summary:
The primary responsibility of the Production position is for the application of safe work practices in the operation of the packaging line and work area. These practices will be continuously employed while producing consistent high quality products that allow Ventura Foods to service customers’ needs.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operate 35# line to produce product to Ventura Foods’/customer specifications:
A. Coordinate with tank farm and Quality Assurance (QA) to ensure oil meets specifications. Notify supervisor or QA of any inconsistencies in oil
B. Ensure that all key performance parameters are met, proper oil, weight, amount of splash, lids, barcodes, labels, and proper seals, prior to sending finished product to warehouse
C. Ensure lab is notified when line starts and when changeovers are complete
D. Inspect HACCP points on a regular basis, as defined by QA, and maximize performance of filters, change and clean when line efficiency falls
- Maintain a consistent product during entire production run and ensure worker safety and food safety procedures are met:
A. Monitor all equipment and make adjustments as needed to maintain consistent product quality
B. Complete required paperwork as required at scheduled intervals; code checks, production recording, and other required checks (use pen only on all paperwork)
C. Immediately notify supervisor and QA of any suspect product that does not meet specifications
D. Continually keep work area clean and safe without causing food safety issues
E. Follow all defined changeover procedures to ensure consistent product quality is maintained
- Ensure that the line is supplied with the proper materials to produce the day’s production run:
A. Understand tank farm and how to supply the line with oil without causing contamination
B. Inspect all items to ensure food safety guidelines are met
C. Notify supervisor or QA if any variances are noted
- Set up line for production run to ensure the application of safe work and food safety practices are met:
A. Inspect work area for worker safety and food safety issues, list findings on operator’s report. Notify supervisor immediately of any deficiencies
B. Review production paperwork and setup coder to meet Ventura Foods’/customer requirements
C. Ensure all HACCP requirements are in place
- Responsible for following all food safety policies, procedures and regulatory criteria including the current SQF code, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and associated preventive controls
- Other duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent experience
- 1 or more years of experience in food line-production preferred
Knowledge and Skills:
- Must be able to read and write legibly and perform basic mathematic functions
- Ability to understand defined operating procedures and their application to producing quality product in a safe and efficient manner
- Ability to operate all 35# line equipment in a safe and efficient manner
- Ability to use JDE RFSmart system for inventory transactions and locator system maintenance
- Capable of becoming qualified to operate required forklifts in a safe and efficient manner
- Must be able to utilize time wisely and work with limited supervision and notify supervisor of any problems as they arise

Typical shifts are 8-12 hours per day. Additional unscheduled time after hours and on weekends may also be required. Employees must be willing and able to wear personal protective equipment as required by Company policy and/or legal requirements. In addition, certain jobs may require employees to:
- Work outside and/or in adverse temperatures which could include extreme heat, cold, and humidity;
- Be exposed to vibrations, chemicals used in operations, fumes and food allergens (may include soy, dairy and other allergens); and
- Be required to work in confined and dark spaces, and at heights in excess of 18 feet.
