Mixer - First Shift

 

Location:  Portland, OR

Position Summary:

The mayonnaise/dressing mixer is responsible for the preparing food product in accordance with the formula and processing specifications. Products are prepared and tested to assure compliance with written formula specifications. This position requires precision, high attention to detail and the ability to follow recipes. Some computer work is required to issue ingerdients to the deck.

5am start

Mon-Thu schedule (4 x 11 hours) with occasional daily and Friday overtime

$17.41- $20.70 per hour (based on hours worked and qualifications)

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Follow production formula in preparing products to meet required specifications.
2. Perform analytical test as required to assure compliance with formula specifications.
3. Record tests results on the appropriate form. Reports any out of specification test results or conditions to the foreperson and or quality assurance department.
4. Report to production foreperson and or maintenance department any equipment deficiency or malfunction.
5. Communicate with appropriate personnel regarding the timely delivery of raw materials to the work station in order to assure efficient operations.
6. Responsible for the delivery of the correct product to the correct location to assure continued and efficient operations.
7. Responsible for providing and documenting oil temperature process chart recorder records.
8. Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe work area in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices.
9. Assure all tasks are performed in a safe manner.
10. Read ingredient lot numbers and records on the appropriate form.
11. Responsible for sanitizing equipment to ensure efficient startup.
12. Check all pipefittings and connections on production equipment to the product delivery point. Tighten all connections as required.
13. Carry out the rework of designated “Hold” products as instructed.
14. Teardown and re-assembly of colloid mill as needed.
15. Perform additional duties as directed.
16. Follow all Safety, associated SOP’s and LOTO guideline and programs.
17. Comply with all Food Safety policies, procedures and regulations including GMP’s, Quality Assurance procedures, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point and GFSI/SQF level 2 or other 3rd party audit criteria as they apply to this position.
18. Must adhere to all Ventura Foods company policies.
 

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent experience
  • 1 or more years of experience  in a food manufacturing environment

Knowledge and Skills:

  • A very general knowledge of how the mixture or adding of certain ingredients will affect the overall product. Thorough knowledge of what each ingredient will bring to the overall property of the product
  • Must be able to read and communicate in the English language in order to accurately select materials per batch sheets, interpret and execute documents such as safety rules and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Possess reading and math skills needed to accurately verify quantities of ingredients and to accurately add ingredients to batch
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with coworkers, other departments and managers 
  • Capable of being forklift licensed/certified with the ability to be trained and demonstrate safe operation of material handling equipment

 

Physical Demands:

Regularly requires intermittent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.  Physical strength and dexterity sufficient to perform the required task(s). Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more with assistance.  Additional demands may be required.

 

Work Environment:

In addition to normal business hours, work schedules may include after hours and weekends as needed.  May work outside and in adverse temperatures which include extreme hot, cold, and humidity.  May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration.  Must be willing and able to wear personal protective equipment as required by established Company Safety standards.  May require work in confined and dark spaces, and at heights in excess of 18 feet for prolonged periods of time.
