Position Summary:

Primary purpose is to safely perform the warehousing duties and responsibilities listed below for both external and internal customers.  

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate Ventura Foods material handling equipment in a safe manner.
    • a) Perform proper pre-operation inspections on all equipment.
    • b) Report any safety hazards.
    • c) Become proficient at forklift, pallet jack, Pallet Transfer Station and other warehouse equipment operation.
    • d) Avoid damage to product, ingredients, packaging, equipment, vehicles and facility.
    • e) Maintain all equipment as directed.
  • Adhere to all accepted Safety, GMP, warehouse, and customer-specific practices.
    • a) Work safely at all times, strictly following Ventura Foods safety rules and guidelines.
    • b) Keep all work and storage areas clean and hazard-free.
    • c) Strictly follow all Ventura Foods GMP procedures.
    • d) Maintain product, packaging and ingredient storage in a manner consistent with proper food safety and within all specifications including proper stock rotation, refrigeration and tempering requirements.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization for warehouse, facility and outside areas.
    • a) Arrange warehouse for efficient space utilization and to maximize put-away and staging storage capacity.
    • b) Empty garbage cans, sweep, vacuum, paint, cobweb removal and operate floor scrubber.
    • c) Other cleaning and weed removal as directed.
  • Use AS400 / JDE computer system, RF system and any other business systems to perform and record warehouse functions.
    • a) Pick orders and assign load id’s / outbound LPs using the RF system.
    • b) Record pallet movements, adjustments, loading, pallet type changes, etc. using the RF system.
    • c) Look up product lot codes and locations using the AS400 / JDE and the RF system as needed.
    • d) Print pick tickets, Bill of Ladings, PO Receiving documents, confirm loading, etc. using the RF system and the AS400 / JDE.
    • e) Properly maintain and account for all RF and AS400 / JDE equipment as instructed.
  • Stage orders for shipment.
    • a) Accurately assemble orders for shipment based on order shipping schedule and management instructions using pick tickets, loading manifests, and other instructions.
    • b) Hand stack, stretch wrap, tie and otherwise prepare pallets of product, ingredients, packaging, etc. for shipment.
    • c) Stage and ship all items according to proper item numbers and correct lot code rotation.
    • d) Stage orders on proper designated white wood, CHEP or other pallets per order and customer requirements.
  • Labeling
    • a) Label and relabel finished product as needed to fill Ventura Foods and customer needs.
    • b) Properly document all labeling transactions.
    • c) Print Pallet License Plates, Load IDs, Outbound LPs and any other labels as directed using in-plant equipment and processes.
    • d) Properly store, sort, rewind and cycle count labels as directed.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED, or 3-5 years experience in a Warehouse / Production environment.  Minimum of 3-5 years of forklift driving experience .

Knowledge and Skills:

1.Must currently be a skilled forklift operator.
2. Must become qualified to operate a pallet jack, Pallet Transfer Station and any other equipment deemed necessary and operate it in a safe and efficient manner.
3. Must be able to understand defined operating procedures and their application to producing, storing, shipping, receiving and handling quality product in a safe and efficient manner.
4. Must be able to utilize the JDE/RFSmart computer system for various department transactions and daily shipping and receiving transactions including printing Bill of Ladings.
5. Must be able to utilize time wisely and be able to work with limited supervision and to notify the supervisor of any problems as they arise.
6. Must be able to lift 53 pounds frequently and 80 pounds occasionally.
7. Must be able to interact with coworkers, customers, drivers and others in a professional and courteous manner.

 

Physical Demands:

Regularly requires intermittent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.  Physical strength and dexterity sufficient to perform the required task(s). Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more with assistance.  Additional demands may be required.

 

Work Environment:

In addition to normal business hours, work schedules may include after hours and weekends as needed.  May work outside and in adverse temperatures which include extreme hot, cold, and humidity.  May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration.  Must be willing and able to wear personal protective equipment as required by established Company Safety standards.  May require work in confined and dark spaces, and at heights in excess of 18 feet for prolonged periods of time.
