Wastewater Operator-3rd Shift (6pm-6am-Days Vary)

 

Location: Ontario, CA 

Exemption: Nonexempt 

Shift: Third

Position Summary:

Operate the waste water system within permit limits set by the City, TCEQ, and EPA.  Aid in complying with the Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan.  Maintain the back lot within food safety and regulatory guidelines.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate the waste water system for discharge water quality within all permit limits set by the City.  Ensure proper treatment with chemicals to maintain acceptable water quality.
  • Order of chemicals for waste water treatment. Tracks inventory levels, FIFO materials.
  • Inspect outfalls to maintain compliance within the Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan.
  • Pump and clean barrels and totes of production waste into waste water system.
  • Prepare and load barrels and cardboard for disposal and sale for recycling.
  • Maintain the back lot in a clean and organized manner.
  • Maintain safety standards.
  • Responsible for following all Food Safety policies, procedures and regulatory criterion including the current SQF code, Good Manufacturing Practices, and the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and associated Preventive Controls.
  • Assist in the training of assigned crew in operating and maintenance procedures, as well as specific job responsibilities as they may be assigned. The technician shall also be in constant communication with team mates and department supervisors in regards to plant processes
  • Responsible for the operation of Wastewater facilities, including all preventative, corrective and emergency maintenance. Maintain detailed documentation of Wastewater operations in respect to regulatory documents, laboratory data, flow calculations, supply ordering, and vendor invoicing.
  • Maintain communication throughout the facility in order to keep up on scheduling changes, Wastewater flow/spills and other items that create changes in the operation of the Wastewater system.
  • Responsible for the proper storage, handling, inventory, and disposal of chemicals (Hazardous/Non Hazardous) used in the waste water operation.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience
  • Previous experience and/or training in chemical handling procedures and associated safety procedures;
  • 1-3 years experience in Wastewater systems, specifically in the field of anerobic digestion.
  • Knowledge of related regulatory standards.
  • Must have 1-3 years experience in the operation and maintenance of wastewater processes, specifically in regards to the operation and maintenance of anerobic methane reactors. Water Treatment, Water Distribution.
  • Waste Water Certifications highly desirable. 

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Must be able to read and understand blueprints, schematics and technical instructions;
  • Must be able to work independently and have leadership skills;
  • Must be skilled in basic use of hand tools and other tools and equipment necessary to perform job function;
  • Must possess verbal and written communication skills to communicate and resolve issues with all levels of the plant operation; 

 

Physical Demands:

Regularly requires intermittent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.  Physical strength and dexterity sufficient to perform the required task(s). Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more with assistance.  Additional demands may be required.

 

Work Environment:

In addition to normal business hours, work schedules may include after hours and weekends as needed.  May work outside and in adverse temperatures which include extreme hot, cold, and humidity.  May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration.  Must be willing and able to wear personal protective equipment as required by established Company Safety standards.  May require work in confined and dark spaces, and at heights in excess of 18 feet for prolonged periods of time.
