Position Summary:
The Packaging Engineer is responsible for the identification, development and commercialization of improved and/or cost-reduced packaging. Designed packaging will assist the company in maintaining or achieving a strategically competitive advantage in the marketplace and/or optimizes the quality, efficiency and margins of existing packaging materials. The Packaging Engineer will act as lead on technical projects and develops innovative approaches for achieving specific project objectives.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Minimize the cost of packaging components via design optimization, championing ideas for savings/innovation/quality, and assist in the qualification of alternate suppliers.
- Improve the performance and quality of packaging designs with respect to operational efficiency, supply chain handling and customer/consumer usage requirements.
- Develop innovation pipeline of growth and cost savings projects that improve efficiency, costs and operations at manufacturing locations. Support new product/packaging innovation ideation with R&D and the Marketing and Sales teams.
- Plan out project needs in terms of assumptions, timelines, milestones, hurdles and contingencies. Help manage the project steps accordingly and will engage with cross functional teams to make sure packaging (and packaging related equipment) is properly designed and developed for all projects.
- Develop and manage technical specifications for packaging components.
- Maintain awareness of technical developments in the Packaging materials and equipment fields. Work with HQ Engineering to define new Packaging equipment specifications.
Education and Experience:
- The Packaging Engineer must have 1+ years of experience in packaging design, development, and evaluation, preferably in a food or consumer products environment.
- This individual should have a background in specifications (concept development through commercialization), as well as experience working with operations, sales & marketing personnel.
- Plant experience and financial aptitude is a must, as is the ability to interact at all levels of the organization and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- B.S. degree in packaging, engineering, or equivalent experience.
Knowledge and Skills:
- This individual must possess knowledge of types of packaging, equipment, and testing procedures.
- Technical experience in: rigid plastics, flexible packaging, and corrugated is preferred.
- Strong team leadership skills are required.

- Salary Base Range of $77,720.45 - $119,960.95*
*The “base salary range” provided above is a good faith estimate of what we expect to pay for this position in the specified markets.
