Position Summary:
Install and maintain enterprise class Windows, VMware and Linux systems, including the appropriate hardware, related system components including peripheral devices, network connectivity, O/S monitoring and performance tools as required. Works closely with system operations on all critical and non-critical system issues and assists in remediation and escalation. Configure, install and maintain operating system software, and related third party products. This includes, but is not limited to; Patch Management, TCP Networking, Database Administration, ServiceNow Ticket management, and scripting.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs routine problem determination, diagnosis and resolution by identifying hardware and software problems and potential solutions.
- Perform administrative tasks for related hardware/software components such as setup, installations, system resource management, performance optimization via industry standard system tools.
- Assists in evaluating and testing systems related to projects working closely with staff in managing and executing approved projects. Identifies and evaluates new technology, to include desktop opportunities.
- Demonstrative skills required in Windows, Windows server, VMWare implementations, data migrations and end user support.
- Perform system development tasks as instructed by Sr. Engineers. Develop and complete actions following system specifications, technical and logistical requirements.
- Manage and document system configurations.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related discipline or equivalent experience desirable.
- 3 years related work experience.
- MCSE desirable.
- 2+ yrs experience with Microsoft Server
- 2+ yrs experience with Vmware, Vsphere and other virtualization products and methodologies
- 1+ yrs experience with Linux
Knowledge and Skills:
- Microsoft Certification for desktop server.
- VMware, Vsphere foundation - implementation, P2V experience, Vmotion methodoligies
- Active Directory, Group Policy design and implementation
- Microsoft Windows 2000/2003/2008 Server, Microsoft Exchange 2003/2010 Server, including installation and troubleshooting.
- Must have knowledge and experience with networking technology and products, particularly TCP/IP, static and dynamics routing, VPN, switching, understanding of OSI model, IP addressing schemes, and DNS.
- PC deployment using imaging software.
- Disaster recovery procedures including scheduling and monitoring of backup solution.
- Experience with Commvault backup solution for servers and desktops.
- Experience with installing, configuring, and maintaining HP, IBM Blade servers
- Experience with Microsoft / Linux integration and security
- Experience trouble shooting WAN / LAN issues and bring solutions and resolution.
