Position Summary:

The Production Planner is responsible for planning and preparing production schedules for manufacture of finished goods for sale to the customer through the development of the master schedule. They will convert the master schedule to a finite schedule establishing the sequence and lead time of each operation to meet shipping dates according to sales forecasts or customer orders. This position will be responsible for analyzing statistical generated forecasts for reasonableness and accuracy. They will ensure that the finite schedule complies with shop floor calendar and capacity requirement planning constraints. Expedites operations that delay schedules and alters schedules to meet unforeseen conditions. They will analyze and manage slow moving and obsolete inventory to minimize impact to the financial statements. They will collaborate with the Master Data Management team to ensure the accuracy of planning attributes is maintained and updated. 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, maintain, and report on performance of the master production schedule. Responsible for converting demand signals into master production schedule by managing exception messages for expediting, delaying or cancelling orders as required. Convert MPS into production schedule using Oracle PS to sequence work orders in the most efficient and cost-effective manner possible. Maintain rough cut capacity plan to insure feasibility of the master schedule. Prepare run out analysis for discontinued items and coordinate exit strategy with material planners.  
  • Manages planning performance by addressing day-to-day issues such as rejections and quality issues and operations requested schedule changes ensuring that the system application (JDE)  is accurate. Interact with shop floor management daily to resolve issues regarding manufacturing efficiencies or to provide additional information as requested from Manufacturing, Customer Service and Accounting. Lead manufacturing performance review meetings.
  • Monitor and ensure planning strategy and goals are executed. Lead and provide support on the disposition of slow moving and obsolete inventory.  Analyze data to provide root cause analysis and report on key performance metrics.
  • Supports internal customers by providing information on planning processes, products, and planning attributes. Makes suggestions for improvement in areas of cost reduction, processes, quality and productivity. Utilize KPI to drive decision making related to improvement areas.
  • Monitor and communicate any data integrity issues. Ensure all required parameters are set in JDE for assigned items.

Education and Experience:

  • Relevant Bachelor’s degree or 5 years of equivalent experience.
  • CPIM (Certified Planning Inventory Management), CSCP (Certified Supply Chain Professional) certification preferred.
  • Relevant JDE experience preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of production planning processes, procedures, and planning terminology.
  • Analytical problem-solving capability, strong organization skills, and ability to manage change effectively.  
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • General supply chain knowledge including planning and inventory management. Proficient with MS Office.
