Plant Engineer

Position Summary:

Performs a variety of engineering functions of intermediate scope involving planning, development, design and installation of equipment, processes and processing automation systems. Provides technical support to the facility to meet customer needs. 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare RFE's, obtain quotes, and estimates of project costs and completion. Responsible to manage projects to budget of approved RFE. Utilize in-plant personnel and outside contractors for installation and completion of capital projects.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement processes for equipment reliability.  Including:  PM improvement activities, root cause problem solving, real-time downtime analysis, throughput improvement, error proofing.
  • Improve production efficiency through automation, support production and maintenance (industrial Techs) with troubleshooting, and identify solutions to control and automation-related problems.
  • Comply and enforce all GMP, Safety, Quality Policies, and HACCP, as well as all other company policies and procedures as required in this position.
  • Maintains drawings of the facilty and equipment. 
  • Support and assist the Maintenance Department on mechanical and electrical issues throughout the plant.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Education and Experience:

  • BS in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering or Controls Engineering or equivalent work experience, which includes a minimum of 3-5 years in related field.
  • Prior experience with PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley, ABB, and others), VFD's, Robotics, Motion control systems, process control systems, power transmissions, hydraulics, pneumatics, refrigeration - ammonia/Freon, welding (Arc, MIG, TIG) of all alloys including non-rerrous metals, HVAC, electrical and mechanical systems.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Emphasis on project management, safety, lean manufacturing, and automation.  
  • AutoCAD proficient.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication/presentation skills.
  • Excellent computer skills and technical documentation.

Typical shifts are 8-12 hours per day.   Additional unscheduled time after hours and on weekends may also be required.  Employees must be willing and able to wear personal protective equipment as required by Company policy and/or legal requirements.  In addition, certain jobs may require employees to:

  • Work outside and/or in adverse temperatures which could include extreme heat, cold, and humidity;
  • Be exposed to vibrations, chemicals used in operations, fumes and food allergens (may include soy, dairy and other allergens); and
  • Be required to work in confined and dark spaces, and at heights in excess of 18 feet.
