Oil Trading Analyst

Position Summary:

The Analyst, Oil Trading will be responsible for compiling forecasts, coverage planning, and data entry processes in collaboration with the Oil Procurement Group.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Oil Procurement and Price Risk Management:

  •  Analyze incoming data and translate into oil procurement needs on a weekly basis.
  • Understand strategic position of major oil types.  Maintain and logic-check oil coverage needs file and communicate out to team members on a monthly basis.
  • Enter purchase contracts as needed to back up Sr Mgr Oil Trading.
  • In collaboration with Oil Trading Manager, support monthly oversight of RSPO auditing requirements.
  • Assist in setting up new suppliers.  This includes vendor communication, records gathering & filing, and system updates. Requires ability to work with many teams and external vendors.
  • Research and gather pertinent data for Oil Trading presentations and reporting.

Purchase Contract Management and Communication:

  • Back up Sr. Manager, Oil Trading in Purchase Contract and PO management.
  • Understand individual plant needs and ordering dynamics.
  • Work with external vendors to communicate and plan plant needs.

Oil Supply Chain and Logistics:

  • Update and maintain supplier scorecards.  Includes tracking supplier performance data and analyzing for trends.
  • Manage incoming shipment and COA data including but not limited to analysis of information included, proper notification to others, and file maintenance.  Serve as point person to Operations for this data.
  • Enter and update PO information as needed and required by manufacturing plant needs.

Additional responsibilities as required.

Education and Experience:

  • The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 1 year experience in the Finance, Accounting and/or Commodities field.
  • Commodities & Agricultural supply chain experience preferred.
  • College degree is preferred.  
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, as well as the ability to prioritize issues and deliver projects and programs on time and within budget.
  • Proven success in cultivating & building relationships with current/future external suppliers, contacts & customers.
  • Experience in financial and/or commodity accounting a plus.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Be a diplomat to external suppliers, an advisor to internal Sales and Operations and a strategist in global oil trends.
  • An energetic self-starter that can work both independenly and collaboratively.
  • Act as an “expert”, advisor and departmental liaison to internal and external stakeholders.
  • An individual that works well in a team environment.

  • Salary Base Range of $85,350 – $105,000 for Employees Located in California*

*The “base salary range” provided above is a good faith estimate of what we expect to pay for this position.   The range provided is for California-based employees as Ventura Foods is required by California State Law to post pay rates.  Ventura Foods reserves the right to pay outside of the given range based on a variety of factors including but not limited to: candidate skills and experience, complexity of the job, budgetary factors, and location/geography.  Ventura Foods conducts regular reviews of compensation ranges and therefore reserves the right to alter this range at any given time.
