Position Summary:

Responsible for planning, conducting and managing Internal Audit activities; create and execute against Audit plan, provide Management with an appraisal for the soundness, adequacy and effectiveness of financial and operational controls; determine extent of compliance with these controls including established policies and procedures; prepare and review workpapers supporting the internal audit reports, draft reports outlining observations and recommendations for improvement.  Work collaboratively with functional leaders and operations managers to create remediation plans to improve overall control environment.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, perform and draft internal audit reports based on the annual internal audit plan.  Lead fieldwork, prepare workpapers and act as direct liaison with auditees.  Assess internal controls and make recommendations to improve and enhance the overall control environment.  Develop audit programs to evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls, efficiency of operations and/or compliance with corporate policies and procedures.   
  • Develop and maintain rapport with employees, management, external auditors and other interested parties to ensure understanding and acceptance of the department's scope and objectives, audit requirements, approach and reporting.  Maintain independence and objectivity while developing relationships with management and visibility over all areas and functions of the business.
  • Assist in the development of a comprehensive risk-based internal audit program. 
  • Execute and complete audit assignments timely with minimal re-work required after review.  Manage the internal audit lead(s) throughout the audit process and provide feedback and guidance as necessary.
  • Participate in the performance of special assignments as requested by the VP Internal Audit.
  • Recommend improvements to policies, procedures, and practices to reduce costs and/or improve internal controls. 
  • Ensure audits are performed in accordance with professional standards and departmental policies. 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or related field.
  • Minimum of five years internal or external audit experience.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) certification preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS) and internal controls
  • Knowledge of the IIA's International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing
  • Working knowledge of auditing and accounting practices used in large organizations
  • Ethical professional who can be trusted to always operate at the highest level of integrity
  • Good judgment and strength of character, positive attitude and able to work with others
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and adhere to established deadlines

  • Salary Base Range of $120,000 – $149,700 for Employees Located in California

The “base salary range” provided above is a good-faith estimate of what we expect to pay for this position. The range provided is for California-based employees, as Ventura Foods is required by California State Law to post pay rates.  Ventura Foods reserves the right to pay outside of the given range based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to candidate skills and experience, complexity of the job, budgetary factors, and location/geography.  Ventura Foods conducts regular reviews of compensation ranges and reserves the right to alter this range at any given time.
