Manager, Risk & Contract Management

Position Summary:

Responsible for communicating the company determined market guidance, risk management services, oil contract management, and commodity margin guidance for assigned accounts. The role will serve as an additional differentiated resource to our commercial team, which will enhance our relationships with assigned customers, and will improve company margins on contracted business across Ventura's Commercial Organization.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Partner with assigned Ventura Commercial Team members providing company determined market guidance and risk management services to the assigned customers.  Provide support for the following sales teams:  National Accounts, Chain Accounts, Field Foodservice, Retail, Ingredients, Specialty Channels and International.   Bi-weekly reporting to the VP, Risk and Contract Management customer positions and set coverage plans.
  • Collaborate with the Commodity Sales Teams providing risk management to assigned national and regional risk management distributors accounts, and the top tier regional chains.  Collaborate with the commodity directors and commodity sales managers the set pricing strategy for commodity products given the size and scope of the opportunity.   Weekly reporting to the VP, Risk and Contract Management ND and regional distributor customer positions and set coverage plans.
  • Assist the VP, Risk and Contract Management to provide company determined market guidance to the Commodity Sales team, Chain Accounts in support of risk and contract activities for assigned chain accounts or internal meetings. 
  • Collaborate with VP, Commodity Risk Management and Sr, Risk & Contract manager on executing the set CVP tiered Risk Management program across assigned risk management customers.
  • Maintain deep knowledge of current commodity market dynamics and risk management strategies in order to effectively help advise customers AND internal Ventura Foods teams and create supporting documents or presentations for the commercial team and publishing market relevant details in Velocity.  
  • Collaborate with Oil Trading Department, VP of Risk Management, and Sr, Risk & Contract manager for booking futures contracts, buying basis, and executing set risk management strategies including options contracts for assigned accounts.  Comply with all Oil Trading contracting requirements.  Manage and communicate commodity transactions, contract positions, and risk management program details to both internal and external stakeholders and leveraging Velocity (Salesforce) where appropriate.  

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience in agricultural commodity futures & options trading OR financial trading OR energy trading
  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Ability to travel 10%
  • Experience working with foodservice chain accounts, retail and/or distributors highly preferred

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Expertise in vegetable oil markets for soy, canola, palm, corn, cotton, & peanut.
  • Expertise in vegetable oil refining processes and technical attributes of various refined and crude oils.
  • Knowledge should include understanding of world oil markets - primarily palm, coconut, and European and Canadian Canola oil and South American soy oils.  
  • A working knowledge of the US biofuels industry seen as a benefit.
  • Must have a working knowledge of CME (futures, options, CME and Cash Markets).  
  • Must have strong presentation skills, and be very detail oriented to effectively manage the oil contracting process.

  • Salary Base Range of $104,000 – $136,000 for Employees Located in California*
  • Annual bonus (based on the incentive program terms and conditions)

*The “base salary range” provided above is a good faith estimate of what we expect to pay for this position.   The range provided is for California-based employees as Ventura Foods is required by California State Law to post pay rates.  Ventura Foods reserves the right to pay outside of the given range based on a variety of factors including but not limited to: candidate skills and experience, complexity of the job, budgetary factors, and location/geography.  Ventura Foods conducts regular reviews of compensation ranges and therefore reserves the right to alter this range at any given time.
