Director Cost Accounting

Position Summary:

Ensures Companywide compliance to Cost Accounting Department Policies and Procedures. Partners with FP&A, Operations Finance and Plants to ensure accuracy in establishing Labor and Overhead  Standard Cost, by product, for the Fiscal Year. Review product cost changes to direct labor, manufacturing overhead and inbound freight on transferred products during the year.  Provide guidance to team relating to variance analysis. Partner with Operations Finance to review existing costing methodology and recommend improvements. Develop alternate process for product costing when new production line(s) added to manufacturing plant or if there is a significant volume change. Review oil activities and ensure oil cost is accurate during the fiscal period. Plan for life after AS/400 (JDE Only). Ensure Operations Finance compliance to Cycle Counting Policies/Procedures.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide guidance to Commodity Manager as it relates to daily, weekly, monthly and annual oil accounting activities
  • Provide direction and guidance to Cost Accounting Manager relating to monthly, quarterly, and annual cost activities and reports, variance analysis for labor efficiency, materials usage/yields, and overhead spending and capacity utilization
  • Provide team with alternate methodologies, such as incremental costing, when adding new manufacturing line(s) to a plant or when there is a significant change in volume during the fiscal year
  • Train and develop Cost Accounting team in current systems and methodologies
  • Provide assistance to Accounting during annual and periodic audits
  • Provide support to other projects assigned by Senior VP Finance
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or Business Administration with primary focus in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years progressive standard cost accounting experience in hands-on senior management role within a large company
  • Demonstrated history of success and advancement
  • Background in manufacturing preferably within the food or processing industry
  • MBA and or CPA preferred
  • Ability to travel 20%

  • Understanding and strong working relationships in operations and commercial teams
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, highly analytical, and possess the ability to interact with all levels of management
