Director of Commodity Sales- Food Service

Position Summary:

Manage and support the direct sales activities of their direct reports to achieve the sales growth and profitability objectives within their respective Region.  Key responsibilities include:  Establishing and achieving annual volume and variable margin objectives by Manager, by Market, and by Distributor;  Working with the Commodity Manager team to set the strategy for the Region; Coaching direct reports on effectively selling Ventura Foods Commodity Products by leveraging our manufacturing footprint, our risk management expertise, and our relationships in the marketplace;  Overseeing the implementation of specific objectives established for key distributors and regional account operators around sales growth and Risk and Contract Management;  Supporting direct reports at National Distributors and other key distributor customers, and select regional operator accounts.  This individual will bring the right balance of collaboration and influence with internal and external customers alike when developing and implementing key initiatives.  Additionally, this individual will embody Ventura's Core Values, as defined in the Ventura Edge.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Execution - Regularly review performance data with VP, Regional Accounts, and Commodity Sales Managers to track progress, and create or adjust strategies & tactics to achieve annual performance objectives. Coaches, supports, and enhances direct field sales execution, leveraging a consistent and effective operating model.  
  • Strategy - Development of a comprehensive go to market strategy is a critical element of success for this role.  Clear understanding of company objectives, the goals and potential of all key distributors and operators, and the Ventura Foods points of difference are essential for establishing a strategy that ultimately adds value for Ventura Foods and all key customers.   
  • Training, Education and Development - Insures exceptional program and product knowledge of the sales team through individual custom and company training programs. Works collaboratively with Ventura Foods Marketing and Commercial Advisory Forum to insure training and educational programs are on point.  Conducts ongoing performance reviews with all direct reports and provides directions to support, enhance and add to employees' current skill sets.     
  • Communication - Provides consistent, clear and concise communication to direct sales team to insure alignment on all goals and objectives.  Consistently communicates the following market information to the VP, Regional Accounts and other key internal stakeholders: Competitive product intel, pricing, promotional and leadership updates, resources and support needed to maximize team volume and profitability, and key customer performance updates.     
  • Internal Alignment - Review current capacity models and communicate updates to the team regularly.  Engage in the PCS process and PRM where necessary to guide projects through the system, or reject where necessary.
  • Sales Expense Management - Responsible for ongoing management of customer, personal and team sales expenses within established budget parameters.    

Education and Experience:

  • Degree from an accreditied 4 year college or university
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in the food industry, in a broad range of sales and management positions including field sales, sales operations
  • Experience leading and managing salespeople
  • P & L management experience, financial analysis, budgeting and forecasting expertise
  • Solid track record of problem solving and priority setting in a fast paced and evolving business environment
  • History of delivering superior business results in changing environments and competitive markets.  
  • Familiarity with CRM tool utilization, a plus.
