Area Manager

Position Summary:

The Area Manager's responsibility is to oversee the development and implementation of the strategic vision for the area of responsibility. Area Manager's should have a focus on meeting production goals, quality, safety, people leadership, engagement, and financial performance. The role should lead, motivate, and develop the area team to achieve high performance and mutual success of the overall plant. An Area Manager is also responsible for the daily direction setting of the area team, coaching and development of employees, resolving issues, thinking strategically, continuous improvement within the area, cross functional communications, leading the triad including training lead and opex engineer, fuel for growth, people planning, staffing, and overall performance of an area. The Area Manager serves as the driver of innovation, success, and sustainability within their assigned area. Running the area as their own business while contributing to the overall success of the plant objectives.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the development and implementation of the strategic vision and business plan within their assigned business unit. The Area Manager is responsible for 24/7 ownership of an entire area or business unit.
  • True ownership of an entire area or business unit. Overseeing the financial ownership, approvals, cost savings, KPI's, people staffing, scheduling, planning, ensuring training of employees, development of staff, execution of CAPEX, leading projects, & performance management
  • Attending specified meetings and providing detailed reports to the operations manager. 
  • Ensuring production goals & product specifications are met. Resolving issues as they arise and monitoring the production process. Communicating cross functional to resolve issues and working with other departments to quickly rectify issues.  
  • Leading the training lead the Area Manager is accountable for area team being trained and cross trained. Ensure overall conformance for all company policies, GMP, and housekeeping. Establishing bench strength within the area and talent assessments. 
  • Leading the daily direction of the OPEX engineer the Area Manager is accountable to OEE initiatives in their business unit. Leading, participating, and directing the initiatives in the business unit.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Production Management, Business or equivalent experience 
  • 5-10 years of experience in Production Management, Business  
  • Prior supervisory and/or managerial experience in a food manufacturing environment preferred 

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Superior planning, coordination, analytical, observational, strategic and coaching skills are required coupled with people leadership and the initiative to create & embrace change
  • Knowldge of manufacturing facility packaging, equipment, and capacity
  • Ability to motivate, lead, and engage employees. Excellent problem solving skills and strong work ethic 
  • Requires computer skills in Microsoft office and outlook
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with all levels to achieve results

*The “base salary range” provided above is a good faith estimate of what we expect to pay for this position in the specified markets.  Ventura Foods reserves the right to pay outside of the given range based on a variety of factors including but not limited to: candidate skills and experience, complexity of the job, budgetary factors, and location/geography.  Ventura Foods conducts regular reviews of compensation ranges and therefore reserves the right to alter this range at any given time.  

 

Physical Demands:

Typical shifts are 8-12 hours per day.   Additional unscheduled time after hours and on weekends may also be required.  Employees must be willing and able to wear personal protective equipment as required by Company policy and/or legal requirements.  In addition, certain jobs may require employees to:

  • Work outside and/or in adverse temperatures which could include extreme heat, cold, and humidity;
  • Be exposed to vibrations, chemicals used in operations, fumes and food allergens (may include soy, dairy and other allergens); and
  • Be required to work in confined and dark spaces, and at heights in excess of 18 feet.
