Position Summary:
Responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and coordination of all engineering, customer and capital projects, facility maintenance, utility management, contractor selection and management, environmental mandates/programs and activities. Budgetary planning and execution in each area of responsibility.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Engineer and manage capital projects including construction projects, to adhere to company capital schedules, budgets and time frame. Facilitator/author of Success Criteria development and implementation. Responsible for monthly and other reports on status of capital projects. Responsible for all capital project recordkeeping.
- Functions as project manager during the development, installation and start up of capital projects. Responsible for planning, scheduling, coordination, implementation, reports, records and completion of each project.
- Creation and management of CAD drawings of the facility and surrounding grounds to accurately represent current facility layout. Modeling of future projects into current facility layout to assist affected departments in development and acceptance.
- Engineer the removal, installation and location of all equipment and machinery. Responsible for all installations and upgrades to meet all electrical, plumbing, mechanical and safety requirements. Test newly installed equipment to insure it meets specifications as stated in Success Criteria.
- Reviews all bids and proposals, then selects and/or makes recommendations of contractor, vendors and equipment. Represent the company when dealing with outside contractors and vendors.
- Prepares annual Capital Budget using analysis reports from EAM system, with input from the Plant Leadership Team with regards to future projects and growth.
- Manage daily activities of the facility maintenance employees, provides development support and training as needed. Develop and implement plans/programs to improve knowledge and training of all facility maintenance personnel. Maintains rigorous standards for each position in the maintenance function and holds staff responsible for achieving & maintaining those standards including safety.
- Effectively uses all existing maintenance systems, JD Edwards - EAM computer software to manage core maintenance transactions. Works to keep system documentation current and recommends any value added changes as needed. Develops and distributes cost analysis documentation for budgetary control.
- Develops, authors and maintains an effective maintenance library of SOP's, vendor manuals, process flows, and other documentation required for key maintenance activities and equipment. These documents are reviewed and/or edited annually.
- Forklift fleet management, leasing, repair, record keeping. Monthly updates of Cost per Hour Logs for HQ records. Feasibility studies on the implementation of alternate power supply systems and fleet management.
- Manage activities of contracted companies/employees, provides support and training as needed to perform duties in an acceptable manner for Ventura Foods, LLC. Maintains rigorous standards for each contractor and holds contractors staff responsible for achieving & maintaining those standards including safety.
- Manage and support security staff, incorporating necessary duties for HACCP monitoring, foods security, temperature monitoring, fire protection, general facility monitoring.
- Development and implementation of Utility Management Programs, including the monitoring of usage, reduction of usage via efficiency, Utility Audits, and resourcing waste streams utilizing recycling centers/outlets.
- Reviews and evaluate new technologies and equipment to improve through put and cost reduction for all systems within the facility.
- Responsible for assuring compliance with all Food Safety policies, procedures and regulatory criterion including the current SQF code, Good Manufacturing Practices, and the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and associated Preventive Controls.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Engineering or Industrial Management, environmental science or related degree or equivalent experience.
Minimum 5 years in related fields.
Knowledge and Skills:
Effective interpersonal skills. Excellent written and verbal communication/presentation skills. Excellent computer skills in up-to-date software for reports, and technical documentation. In-depth knowledge of plant operation with the ability to recognize mechanical, electrical and structural problems.
Physical Demands:
Regularly requires intermittent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Physical strength and dexterity sufficient to perform the required task(s). Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more with assistance. Additional demands may be required.
Work Environment:
In addition to normal business hours, work schedules may include after hours and weekends as needed. May work outside and in adverse temperatures which include extreme hot, cold, and humidity. May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. Must be willing and able to wear personal protective equipment as required by established Company Safety standards. May require work in confined and dark spaces, and at heights in excess of 18 feet for prolonged periods of time.
