Position Summary:
Ensures the integrity of Company's General Ledger and Financial Statements by recording, verifying, and entering transactions in accordance with company policy and accounting principles. Actively assesses opportunities to continually enhance the close to report process, including systems-based improvements and procedural updates to build on making the close to report process more efficient and transparent.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform month-end close which includes reviewing and posting of all inventory related automated journal entries. This includes, reconciliation of subledger to the general ledger, maintenance of inventory rollforward, and preparation and posting of journal entries for inventory usage variances, shipping accruals and manufacturing variance close-outs.
- Review and post divisional journal entries. Review and approve the journal entries of senior accountants before posting to the General Ledger. Work with manager to ensure deadlines are met.
- Review divisional Plant and Selling Region Financial Statements for accuracy and provide commentary for variances exceeding expectations.
- Provide support for Plant Controllers and other accountants within the department. Serve as a resource to the team and others in Manager's absence. Act as a liaison between the divisions and headquarters.
- Reconcile and analyze various Corporate General Ledger accounts. Prepare any adjusting journal entries.
- Strategize with manager to identify process improvement and best practice opportunities, including better use of systems, elimination of waste, enhanced use of technology, and refinement of close to report processes.
- Facilitate implementation of changes by creating team buy-in and leading by example while contributing to a positive work environment. Encourage all team members to adopt a continuous improvement mindset.
- Set performance and development objectives for direct reports. Ensure team members acquire necessary skills and performance attributes, in line with business and personal development needs. Help manager drive department objectives. Prepare staff annual performance reviews.
- Prepare and assist in external audit, tax reporting and other regulatory requirements.
- Document policies, procedures, and workflow for assigned areas of responsibility.
- Collaborate and contribute to department and company strategic initiatives as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field.
- Minimum 7 years experience in a related field plus 1 year of supervisory experience.
- Prior manufacturing experience is desirable.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Thorough knowledge of general accounting principle and practices.
- Effective, professional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey information in a clear and concise manner.
- Detail-oriented with ability to multi-task and perform tasks consistently and accurately.
- Must demonstrate strong leadership and teambuilding skills.
- Proficiency in Excel and Word.
- Prior JD Edwards/Oracle experience is desirable.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and organizational skills to ensure the integrity and quality of work deliverables.

Physical Demands:
Regularly requires intermittent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Physical strength and dexterity sufficient to perform the required task(s). Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more with assistance. Additional demands may be required.
Work Environment:
In addition to normal business hours, work schedules may include after hours and weekends as needed. May work outside and in adverse temperatures which include extreme hot, cold, and humidity. May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. Must be willing and able to wear personal protective equipment as required by established Company Safety standards. May require work in confined and dark spaces, and at heights in excess of 18 feet for prolonged periods of time.
