Supervisor Production/Sanitation

 

Location: Thornton, IL

Position Summary:

Responsible for activities in Production and Sanitation areas to meet production goals, Sanitation goals, quality and cost objectives.  Provides direction to employees according to established policies and management guidance.  This position requires direction of separate Production and Sanitation rooms accounting for hourly employees.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Plan, organize, and delegate work assignments to accommodate departmental schedules and to best utilize manpower and equipment and thereby meeting Production and Sanitation efficiencies and striving for continual improvement within departments.

Provide direction to Production and Sanitation personnel and monitor job performance.  Communicate with personnel on any schedule changes and assist them in resolving production issues to ensure customer orders are completed on time. Coaching and counseling effectively.

Communicate, in a timely manner, with production manager, scheduler, and other management staff status of production progress keeping them appraised of any issues that may impact order completion. Use shift report to detail issues.

Ensure product specifications are met and alert production manager and quality assurance if product quality is in question immediately.  Resolve quality issues through training of personnel and enforcement of standards.

Knowledgeable in all cleaning, processes and equipment functions, tracks and resolves labor timekeeping issues.  Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of area. CIP knowledge needs to be expert level.

Develop and implement job specific training to all employees, ensure overall conformance with all Company policies, Good Manufacturing Practices, and housekeeping. Enforce company Policies on attendance, company rules, safety rules and job requirements.

Is an advocate of safety within the facility and follows, and enforces all safety procedures. Can properly investigate accidents, close call near misses and dertemine corrective action to prevent accidents. Safety is the number 1 priority.

Evaluate and update the Sanitation Department procedure, SOP's and Master Sanitation Schedule to reflect changes in equipment design, new equipment, or changes in the cleaning process. Conduct training to reflect changes.

Participate in cost saving initiatives such as TPM, exacuting lean manuafacturing processes, procedures and tools. Develop and monitor the Sanitation Department labor & supply budget. Monitor daily inventories. Maintain CIP monitor sheet to include posting daily.

Keep plant clean and orderly daily. Ensure that the plant is inspection ready at all times. Communicate these expectations to your team. Needs to understand all expectations for SQF, IMS, State and general plant audits.

Education and Experience:

Bachelors degree or equivalent experience. 
3+ years of experience as a front line supervisor in a Dairy manufacturing environment is preferred. 
3+years experience in the food industry and knowledge of GMPs, HACCP, SQF and Sanitation.

Knowledge and Skills:

Must be able to communicate accurately and clearly both orally and in writing using electronic media, telephone and direct contact with internal and external personnel.  
Skill set must include strong analytical, observation, and coaching skills coupled with initiative to create and embrace change. 
Knowledge of facility's packaging, equipment, and capacity is important. 
Operate standard office equipment and demonstrate competency in the use of standard software applications.

 

Physical Demands:

Regularly requires intermittent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.  Physical strength and dexterity sufficient to perform the required task(s). Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more with assistance.  Additional demands may be required.

 

Work Environment:

In addition to normal business hours, work schedules may include after hours and weekends as needed.  May work outside and in adverse temperatures which include extreme hot, cold, and humidity.  May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration.  Must be willing and able to wear personal protective equipment as required by established Company Safety standards.  May require work in confined and dark spaces, and at heights in excess of 18 feet for prolonged periods of time.
