Manager, Plant

Position Summary:

To control manufacturing location and distribution center activities to achieve Company profit and growth objectives primarily through controlling product quality, quantities, and costs associated with the location.  This is to be done in accordance with all Company policies and procedures, as well as, all Federal, state, and local statutes.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assure all food products meet food safety and compliance standards and specifications of all jurisdictional entities (FDA, USDA, etc.) of Ventura Foods and its customers.
  • Manage and control assets to achieve and improve cost objectives while meeting or exceeding customer's expectations.  The major cost areas being labor, oil, ingredients, and plant overhead expenses.
  • Manage location safety and health programs to meet OSHA and Ventura's standards with emphasis on reducing/eliminating employee injuries and worker's compensation claims.
  • Manage and control facility equipment and processes to meet all environmental regulations of the Federal, state and local governments.
  • Assure that Ventura policies are administered fairly and in accordance with Company benefits and other administrative policies.  This includes hiring, promotions, and terminations of employees.
  • Prepare, implement, and manage capital and operating budgets timely and effectively.
  • Manage to attain service levels of 99% case fill and 97% order fill.  (preventative maintenance, Foods and materials locator system, SIS programs, and work order systems).
  • Manage to meet or exceed acceptable scores/ratings on all internal and external audits.
  • Maintain facilities and grounds in good repair and consistent with high standards.
  • Maintain and encourage employee participation in new and creative ideas for cost control, new products and process enhancements to aid in the longevity of Ventura Foods as a company.




Education and Experience:
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience with 10 years of food manufacturing experience in progressively higher positions in supervision and management. 
  • Minimum of three years should be in an union environment. 
Knowledge and Skills:
  • High level of knowledge and skills relating to plant sanitation, GMP's, food manufacturing equipment and processes preferably related to oil based products ran on both continuous and batch process systems.
  • High level of business savvy and ability to deal with both daily facility problems and with highest levels of management (internal and external).
  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel spreadsheets.
  • Good working knowledge of product formulas, costing, and experience in bringing R&D endeavors to fruition. 
  • Requires leadership and team building skills.
  •  Ability to aggressively manage change, and skilled at handling employee disputes and maintaining good employee morale.
  •  Experience in leading successful continuous improvement projects.


Physical Demands:

Regularly requires intermittent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.  Physical strength and dexterity sufficient to perform the required task(s). Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more with assistance.  Additional demands may be required.


Work Environment:

In addition to normal business hours, work schedules may include after hours and weekends as needed.  May work outside and in adverse temperatures which include extreme hot, cold, and humidity.  May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration.  Must be willing and able to wear personal protective equipment as required by established Company Safety standards.  May require work in confined and dark spaces, and at heights in excess of 18 feet for prolonged periods of time.
