Wastewater Operator, 3rd Shift (6pm-6am) Days Vary

 

Location: Ontario, CA

Position Summary:

The Wastewater Technician maintains operation of company Wastewater system by maintaining necessary documentation, communicating with teammates, supervisors, and contractors. The technician also ensures compliance with federal, state, city, and company guidelines in respect to regulated discharge of facility wastewater. The technician also assesses, directs, and performs all needed maintenance functions for facility WWTP equipment. The technician shall also direct all in house laboratory testing of facility waste streams, provide critical analysis of results, and make changes to the WWTP processes based upon interpretation of those results.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate the waste water system for discharge water quality within all permit limits set by the City. 
  • Ensure proper treatment with chemicals to maintain acceptable water quality.
  • Order of chemicals for waste water treatment. Tracks inventory levels, FIFO materials.
  • Inspect outfalls to maintain compliance within the Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan.
  • Pump and clean barrels and totes of production waste into waste water system.
  • Prepare and load barrels and cardboard for disposal and sale for recycling.
  • Maintain the back lot in a clean and organized manner.
  • Maintain safety standards.
  • Responsible for following all Food Safety policies, procedures and regulatory criterion including the current SQF code, Good Manufacturing Practices, and the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and associated Preventive Controls.
  • Treat water before sending to city, make adjustments that PH are not harmful. Guidelines that operator needs to follow. Discharge to the city (through pipe).
  • Chemicals are involved to make it clean. Main priority to treat water and be in compliance with city. Know reactors/the bugs (microbiology) bug will eat the waste.
  • Monitor the flow, pumps work, no water leaks, monitor system (Wonderware software). Need to troubleshoot (fixing) motors and pumps.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience and/or training in chemical handling procedures and associated safety procedures.
  • Prefer 1-3 years of experience in Wastewater systems, specifically in the field of Anerobic digestion (bugs eating waste).
  • Knowledge of related regulatory standards. (Discharge parameters-water being sent to city)
  • Must have 1-3 years of experience in the operation and maintenance of wastewater processes, specifically in-regards to the operation and maintenance of anerobic methane reactors. Manufacturing experience.
  • Water Treatment, Water Distribution, and Wastewater Certifications highly desirable.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of waste water treatment system
  • Wastewater certification a plus

 

Physical Demands:

Regularly requires intermittent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.  Physical strength and dexterity sufficient to perform the required task(s). Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more with assistance.  Additional demands may be required.

 

Work Environment:

In addition to normal business hours, work schedules may include after hours and weekends as needed.  May work outside and in adverse temperatures which include extreme hot, cold, and humidity.  May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration.  Must be willing and able to wear personal protective equipment as required by established Company Safety standards.  May require work in confined and dark spaces, and at heights in excess of 18 feet for prolonged periods of time.
