Benefits Analyst

Position Summary:

Under limited supervision, responsible for assessment and administration of benefits programs, employee benefits education, and ensuring plan provisions are properly applied and followed. Conducts analysis and administers employee benefits programs including Health, Dental and Life Insurance, Flexible Spending Accounts, Short and Long Term Disability Insurance, Employee Assistance Program, COBRA and 401(k) plans. 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assesses eligibility, provides guidance to employees regarding benefits plans, partnering with carriers and Payroll as needed. Ensures programs are being carried out appropriately based on plan descriptions and provisions.
  • Conducts new employee orientation and enrolls new employees in benefits plans. Completes status changes and open enrollment plan transfers. 
  • Coordinate administration and communications of wellness platform and related functions (health challenges, Gym Memberships, etc.).
  • Initiates new hire benefits enrollment and monitors changes of status by obtaining, verifying, and recording employee information in benefits systems (i.e., online benefit enrollment system, HRIS). Maintains employee records and initiates termination of benefits for departing employees.
  • Maintains benefits systems (i.e., Secova, HRIS) and functions as the service provider liaison. Conducts system assessments regularly in order to maintain/improve efficiency and compliance, makes recommendations, and leads implementation in partnership with the provider.
  • Leads administration of employee leave management, FSA and Cobra administration.
  • Meets with employees individually to provide guidance on provisions of benefits packages, and presents benefits information for annual open enrollment and group orientations. Ensures necessary benefits materials are available to employees.
  • Leads benefits accounting processes to include benefits vendor payments, reconciliation of billing/payments, and resolving discrepancies between vendors and Ventura Accounting.
  • Other responsibilities as needed and assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a major in Human Resources or equivalent education/experience.  
  • 5+ years experience in human resources with 2+ years in benefits administration.
  • Strong excel skills, i.e. pivot tables, etc.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Prior experience working with Virgin Pulse, Empyrean, LOAs 3rd party systems is preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with others.      
  • Ability to understand and interpret documents such as benefits plan documents and provisions. 
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. 
  • Excellent organizational skills, the ability to complete tasks in a timely manner, and the ability to work under strict time constraints.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Abiltity to interact effectively with different levels of the organization and with outside benefits providers.       
  • Knowledge of and ability to use HRIS systems and Microsoft Office. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of applicable federal, state, and local laws pertaining to benefits administration.
  • Knowledge of insurance and benefits terminology as well as procedures surrounding claims processing.          
  • Knowledge of general personnel operations with emphasis on benefits administration practices and regulations.
