Plant Engineer, Associate

Position Summary:

Assist Engineering Manager in maintaining and improving the operation by assisting in the design and installation of equipment, processing systems, and utilities to meet customer needs.  Supervise from inception to completion, capital and improvement projects while supporting equipment reliability and preventative maintenance efforts. 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide assistance to manufacturing facility to identify and solve production problems that negatively impact product quality and/or throughput.
  • Work with suppliers to specify, develop, and debug new products, production equipment, and manufacturing lines as required to produce products that meet or exceed customer requirements.
  • Prepare project documentation to include, scope of work, design documentation and RFP's.  Evaluate bids and make recommendations on path forward.  Attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and prepare FAT reports.
  • Support the Engineering Manager by driving projects through all phases of implementation and completion, including design, procurement, installation, startup, and turn over to manufacturing while minimizing the risks to the product, people and production losses.
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams including personnel from manufacturing, quality assurance, maintenance, equipment manufacturers and installation contractors in resolving mechanical / process issues.
  • Assist with the identification and execution of projects to improve the overall efficiency of the plant.  Projects may incorporate improvements to equipment, process or people. 
  • Identify safety hazards with equipment design and operation and develop plan to resolve.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from a four year college or university or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in engineering, maintenance, equipment reliability, and/or capital project management (1-3 years).
  • Previous experience in food manufacturing desired.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • The candidate must have a good working knowledge of technology and equipment employed in the food industry.  Equipment will include boilers, NH3 refrigeration, pumps, fillers, cappers, sealers, printers, a wide range of  wrapping and packaging equipment, swept surface heat exchangers, and blenders.  Knowledge of control and automation systems is desired.  The ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and work both independently and in multidisciplinary groups/teams with a high level of motivation.  Exceptional problem solving and organizational skills.  Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively present information to mangement and internal and external customers in a professional manner.  Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Profession Suite.

Physical Demands:

Regularly requires intermittent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.  Physical strength and dexterity sufficient to perform the required task(s). Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more with assistance.  Additional demands may be required.


Work Environment:

In addition to normal business hours, work schedules may include after hours and weekends as needed.  May work outside and in adverse temperatures which include extreme hot, cold, and humidity.  May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration.  Must be willing and able to wear personal protective equipment as required by established Company Safety standards.  May require work in confined and dark spaces, and at heights in excess of 18 feet for prolonged periods of time.
