QA Tech-Sanitation, Lead

 

Location: Albert Lea, MN 

Exemption: Nonexempt 

Shift: Third

Position Summary:

Assist QA and Sanitation Supervisors in coordinating activities within the plant and assign various duties to personnel.  Assist with on-the-job training of new employees as directed by Quality management.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with appropriate management regarding quality and sanitation issues and concerns.  Provide corrective actions if needed, do daily follow-up and reports. 
  • In absence of Sanitation Supervisor  leader sanitation team. This includes scheduling of employees and completion of  daily sanitation activities (pre-op, ATP, titration, other assigned tasks from quality management).   
  • Support Sanitation Supervisor in creation, maintaining of sanitation SOP's and updates Master Sanitation Schedule.   
  • Ensure all sanitation employees are completing titration testing of chemicals used in cleaning process.  Including support of training, reporting and records. 
  • Maintain ATP program in sanitation and reporting to QA 
  • Guide and direct employees through the pre-op process, which  includes training QA and Sanitation personnel on visual observations, key pieces of equipment, and ensuring completion of daily records.
  • Assist QA and Sanitation management with special projects as assigned by QA Manager. 
  • Follow, notify and advise management on any concerns regarding GMP, Sanitation, housekeeping,  safety, security or other issues.
  • Support Quality Assurance on off shifts as required.
  • Responsible for following all Food Safety policies, procedures and regulatory criterion including the current SQF code, Good Manufacturing Practices, and the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and associated Preventive Controls.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in food science or related field or equivalent experience.  
  • Two years prior experience in a food manufacturing lab environment, preferably in fats and oils.
  • Sanitation experience preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Requires leadership skills and excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Proficient in all Quality Assurance Technician I and II job duties.
  • Computer literate, experience with Microsoft Word and Excel. 
  • Must be able to calculate and interpret various analytical data. 
  • Ability to approach others in a professional manner, react well under pressure, and follow through on commitments. 
  • Ability to work overtime as required. 
  • Willing to develop knowledge of margarine/shortening technology and obtain HACCP Certification.        
  • Willing to develop knowledge of FSMA / SQF and obtain PCQI certification.

 

Physical Demands:

Regularly requires intermittent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.  Physical strength and dexterity sufficient to perform the required task(s). Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more with assistance.  Additional demands may be required.

 

Work Environment:

In addition to normal business hours, work schedules may include after hours and weekends as needed.  May work outside and in adverse temperatures which include extreme hot, cold, and humidity.  May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration.  Must be willing and able to wear personal protective equipment as required by established Company Safety standards.  May require work in confined and dark spaces, and at heights in excess of 18 feet for prolonged periods of time.
