Production Engineering Intern

Position Summary:

Responsible for providing support to the Engineering Manager and Maintenance team in order to assist in plant engineering functions through organizing and working with CAD drawings, assisting in gathering information for reports and maintenance turnarounds, and assist in creating and overseeing new projects.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist Engineer and Maintenance team in updating and developing Piping and Instrumental Diagram (P&ID)
  • Oversee new projects through the updating of P&ID
  • Organize, archive, and provide support relating to CAD drawing model files
  • Provide maintenance support through assisting in gathering information from past maintenance turnarounds
  • Create new Reliability Group work processes and systems
  • Provide progress reports to faculty coordinator
  • Attend conferences and meetings as necessary
  • Maintain confidentiality while working with all Ventura Foods information and projects

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Engineering in progress from a four year college or university

Knowledge and Skills:

  • The candidate must have a good working knowledge of technology and mechanics.  Equipment will include boilers, NH3 refrigeration, pumps, fillers, cappers, sealers, printers, a wide range of  wrapping and packaging equipment, swept surface heat exchangers, and blenders.  Knowledge of control and automation systems is desired.  The ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and work both independently and in multidisciplinary groups/teams with a high level of motivation.  Exceptional problem solving and organizational skills.  Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively present information to mangement and internal and external customers in a professional manner.  Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Profession Suite.


Physical Demands:

Regularly requires intermittent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.  Physical strength and dexterity sufficient to perform the required task(s). Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more with assistance.  Additional demands may be required.


Work Environment:

In addition to normal business hours, work schedules may include after hours and weekends as needed.  May work outside and in adverse temperatures which include extreme hot, cold, and humidity.  May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration.  Must be willing and able to wear personal protective equipment as required by established Company Safety standards.  May require work in confined and dark spaces, and at heights in excess of 18 feet for prolonged periods of time.
